THSA Selects HITRUST for Texas Covered Entity Privacy and Security Certification Program
October 8, 2013
The THSA has selected the Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) to assist in the development and maintenance of the Texas Covered Entity Privacy and Security Certification Program, as created in accordance with Texas House Bill (HB) 300 passed in 2011.
Texas is the first state to develop a formal approach to certification that incorporates state and federal privacy and security regulations. The THSA-HITRUST Certification Program is designed to improve the protection of health information for Texas residents. Organizations participating in the program will be able to show they have met state and federal privacy and security standards in order to manage risk and increase confidence in how they protect health information.
In addition, organizations that obtain a recommendation for certification from HITRUST and complete the THSA Certification process will be able to leverage the certification in an action or proceeding imposing any civil or administrative penalties for violations of the Texas Medical Records Privacy Act.
